A notary public, is a person authorized to perform certain legal formalities, particularly to witness the signing of documents and to certify the identity of the signatory by applying a stamp and their signature to the document.
You must have a valid government issued ID with photo, physical description, signature and ID number. If no ID is available, two Credible Witnesses can be used. The notary must be able to communicate with the signer and they must be coherent & understand what they are signing. Interpreters may not be used. Documents must be completely filled out. No blank spaces. Please do not sign the document until you are in front of the notary public.

A Credible Witness is an individual who knows and can verify the identity of a signer. A Credible Witness is used if a signer cannot provide valid government issued ID. In the state of California, two Credible Witnesses are required to validate the identity of a signer. The Credible Witnesses must provide valid government issued ID at the time of signing.

*Please note: A Notary Public cannot notarize or certify copies of vital records such as Birth, Death, or Marriage certificates, or passports. This is done by the County Clerk.
